This photo of the late Dr. Henery W. Jensen, Dean of Warren Wilson College, marks the beginning of my art career. It was 1950. I would be 18 that Decemeber. 'Doc,' as he was called, was talking informally as he painted. His audience included three students (I'm the one with the ball cap), two faculty members, and three women spouses. Sitting directly above me was Lucile Patton Bannerman, First Lady of Warren Wilson College, who had taken me out to watch her paint 'en plein air.' On occasions when she invited me in for a home-cooked meal, I caught a glimpse of her 8-year-old daughter, Mary. Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that, 13 years after Doc's demonstration, the First Lady would become my mother-in-law, and Mary would be my wife. Thanks to the First Lady's patience and the inspiration I received from teachers and work supervisors during my five years at WWC, I have enjoyed 63 years of creativity.
